We’ve waited, we’ve endured, we’ve anticipated – and now it’s here. Football season is upon us once again. For the 115 million of us who watched the Big Game last February, and the millions more who tune in to college games on those fabled fall Saturdays, it’s an exhilarating feeling! 

So that got us thinking at Everly – you know what else makes us feel exhilarated? Giving our customers the confidence to help them make solid financial decisions.

First, let’s talk about protection. After all, defense wins championships, right? Well, it can help – but you need a complete team. Yet it’s fair to say defense is an excellent building block.

The first consideration for a life insurance purchase should be protection. If you’re reading this, you’ve likely identified a need for life insurance. Maybe you just got married or had a kid. Or, you’ve bought a new house – which is no easy feat with interest rates on the rise – and you want to make sure your family could afford to stay there if something happened to you. You may have thought about purchasing a Term life insurance product. In general, Term products are more affordable than permanent life insurance products, but they have a catch – they end. That’s why they’re called ‘term,’ because they’re only for a certain period, usually 10, 20, or 30 years. If you don’t pass away during your term period – that’s great! But it’s 20 years down the road, and you still have a family and maybe still have a house payment. Yet unfortunately, the cost of insurance goes up as you get older. So you’re back at your own goal line, still needing protection but in the unfortunate position of having to pay a lot more for it. 

That’s why an excellent defensive lineman will read the field and look for the best play – allowing his offense to get back on the field to score points and ultimately win the game. Now let’s spend a few minutes talking about the fun stuff – growth! After all, fielding a good offensive team is how you score points, right? (At least most of the time.)

Life insurance companies manage the index, which is why customers can't invest directly into the fund.


While greater risks can result in greater potential rewards, it’s still advisable to understand whether or not a policy  you are considering offers a guaranteed minimum interest rate. Variable Universal Life Insurance Policies

In a variable universal life insurance (VUL) policy, your cash value is directly invested in mutual fund-like subaccounts. These insurance policies tend to include higher risk because the cash value will increase or decrease depending on how the chosen subaccounts are performing.

For example, policyholders may take a loan on the cash value to help pay a mortgage on their first house or help pay expenses on their first business. In many cases, withdrawing cash from cash value may be a better option than taking out new lines of credit or applying for new loans. You should carefully evaluate the terms of your insurance policy when considering taking a loan or withdrawal from your policy.


There are four main ways you can access the cash value of your insurance policy:

Pay Your Life Insurance Premiums Using Cash Value


If you’re experiencing financial hardship but don’t want to sacrifice your life insurance by missing payments or lapsing your life insurance policy coverage, you may be able to use the cash value of your policy to pay your monthly insurance premiums.

In dire situations, policyholders can sometimes cancel or ‘surrender’ their life insurance policies. Policyholders may be able to make a tax-free withdrawal from their life insurance policy as long as the withdrawal amount does not exceed the amount they’ve paid into the cash-value portion of the insurance policy.
