These assets are even more tax-favored because they are taxed when they are contributed to a plan, but any growth is tax-free – meaning if you invest in one of these plans now, you won’t have to pay taxes later. Roth IRAs, 529 plans, HSA plans, and FSA plans fall into this category. 

However, there are some restrictions on how you qualify for these accounts and how they’re used. For example, 529 plans can only be used for education expenses. And HSA plans are only available if you also have a high-deductible health plan. So, like pecan pie – these are good choices under certain circumstances but not right for everyone. 

Chess Pie = Lesser Known but a Crowd Pleaser (variations include buttermilk and custard pie)

Policyholders may be able to make a tax-free withdrawal from their life insurance policy as long as the withdrawal amount does not exceed the amount they’ve paid into the cash-value portion of the insurance policy.
